Why I Like Silence More as I Get Older

writing of the present

Noise. It just can’t be understand nor explained. It’s just bothersome.

Maybe some like it. I don’t. Maybe it’s my age or who I just am.

What is silence to me? It means being able to listen to natural sounds: the soft blowing of the wind as it touches the tree leaves; the chirps of the birds as they dance around those leaves; the purrs of my cat; my soft breathing.

Away from thoughts of the past and of the future. Why thoughts of the past? They may have been good times, but they also have bad times. We’re human, and we’ve done stupid and hurting things in the past. No need to figure out what was good or bad, especially when they involve relations with people.

As for the future? It hasn’t come yet. So why dwell on it?

I remain in the present, for that’s where we are now. There’s no negativity now. There’s only positivity.

Let the love of life possess you. Let good thoughts inspire you. Let your heart beat thankfulness for who you are now, not what you were or what you might become.

You are new everyday. Let that inspire and motivate you.
